Innovative electroluminescent nanocomposites for a new approach in polymer based light emitting devices
In the last few years the interest for electroluminescent materials has significantly increased due to their high potential applications in cutting edge optoelectronic devices, especially in the fields of solid state lightning sources and high resolution color displays. Especially the interest towards new technical solutions for high resolution, wide viewing angle, flexible thin films and energy efficient color displays has gained a lot of interest due to their wide range of applications in computer and multimedia devices, currently, the state of the art being represented by the OLED (organic light emitting device) approach.

One of the main purposes of this project consists in developing new electroluminescent composite materials with properties specific to next generation applications in the field of optoelectronics, especially for the next generation color display and lighting devices. The objectives and related activities of the project were conceived so that at the accomplishment of the research program there will be possible to provide photoluminescent and electro luminescent composites closer to be applied in targeted applications. Nanostructured materials including II-VI Quantum Dots, G-QD, C-Dots and other luminescent compounds (transition metal complexes for ex.) are intended to be introduced in electroconductive polymer matrices to provide the active layer for mono and multi layer electroluminescent cells emitting in each of the three fundamental colors (R,G,B) with the targeted chromaticity parameters.

During the research project stages, significant results are expected, as follows: new luminescent materials and compounds, design of electrolumiescent cells based on the newly developed materials and compounds as emissive layers. Also scientific aspects related to the morpho-structural properties of the new developed compounds and materials are intended to be in depth investigated with emphasis on luminescence mechanisms
