Project Abstract:

The project is aiming on the fabrication and physical-chemical characterization of complex nanostructured photoresponsive materials based on the self-assemblies of nanoparticles of metal oxides-layered double hydroxide matrices (denoted as MexOy/LDHs) and their applications as novel photocatalytic formulations for water splitting process and photocatalytic decomposition of some organic pollutants. The studied MexOy/LDHs nanoarchitectures are able not only to join the characteristtics of nanosized MexOy with the specific taxtural features of the layered LDH clay but also to develop its own characteristics. The project might be able to offer new knowledge regarding how potential photocatalytic materials can be made (more) active in the visible range, to establish new formulations for photocatalytic water splitting process and to offer new solutions for photocatalytic degradation of some organic pollutants from aqueous mediums.
